Fierce Attachments; Bek-Jean’s sixth solo offering will be released with a series of singles along with film-clips. In the chaos of 2020 Bek-Jean and the band recorded this supreme double album that is set to be released on limited edition vinyl. As a deeply personal storyteller, her songs explore self-reflective themes which include grief and loss, mental illness, addiction, mercurial gender and the unfettered challenges of the human condition. Fierce Attachments is an album of women’s stories, bringing to focus the uniquely feminine struggles around sexual power, the contest for space in society and the battle to tear down social constructs. These are women’s stories in all their rawness. They are her stories about patterns of broken relationships, trying hard to be a better human by owning your stuff and changing it. The album moves with an energetic clarity whilst occupying a quiet space in the world. There are the obvious singles like ‘Seeking Love’ ‘Me And My Ghost’ and ‘Human Frailties’, whose velocity is immediate, but overall this is a quieter more observational album than Stewart’s last. It’s an album of vulnerability and exposure. The songs are unguarded and blatant in their quest for a deeper truth of the inner self. There is an element of detachment to these songs. A solid knowledge of who she is and what her patterns are within intimate relationships. She appears considerably self-actualised. There is a lot to appreciate within this new album and Bek-Jean as an artist. She is unafraid to express her deepest emotions. These songs simply reflect the state of her internal world. Bek-Jean Stewart most defiantly marches to the beat of her own drum.
